The smoky and fragrant taste of Earl Grey is a unique experience that many people can not get enough of. Described as a spicy citrus flavor, Earl Grey is a hard to describe taste that is unforgettable once tasted. Apparently Captain Picard of Star Trek fame will not drink anything else!

Although many people consider Earl Grey as a type of tea, any black tea with bergamot flavor added is in fact Earl Grey. Some manufacturers will even use their lower quality black tea to make Early Grey in the belief that the strong flavor of bergamot will mask the poor taste of the tea. Mostly taken black with maybe a slice of lemon added, Earl Grey is nevertheless one of the most popular of all the flavored teas in the world.

The Origin of Earl Grey Tea

Earl Charles Grey was the Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1830. The story is that while on a diplomatic trip to China, he saved the life of a mandarin. To show his gratitude, the mandarin gifted Earl Grey a special tea, which the Prime Minister took back to England with him. The tea quickly became a favorite in the Earls drawing room, and he asked his personal tea supplier to reproduce the same flavor for him. The new tea became fashionable and eventually spread throughout England and the rest of the world.

It is a good story, but unlikely to contain much truth! Charles Grey never visited China and the Chinese drink very little black tea in any case, which means the true origin of Earl Grey tea is still a mystery.

    Bergamot

Bergamot is a citrus tree that is cultivated on the south coast of Italy. Also known as the Princes Pear, the fruit is inedible but the oil extracted from it is used to fragrance perfume as well as tea. The oil was an ingredient of one of the first Eau de Cologne ever made. (It is quite different from the herb called bergamot) The fruit is a cross between lemon, orange and grapefruit, sometimes compared to orange blossom.

In the winter months, before it ripens, the fruit harvest is picked by hand. Specially made cold presses are used to extract the bergamot essence, which is then stored for at least a year. Bergamot is used in aromatherapy to treat depression, and also has anti-microbial effects that can strengthen the resistance of the body to colds and illnesses. Perhaps Earl Grey tea is a good remedy for winter sniffles!

    The Taste of Lady Grey

Popular consensus in the time of Earl Grey held that tea made women over-excitable, causing impropriety in the female temperament. Orange, lemon and bergamot were added to tea to calm these impulses, and Lady Grey tea was invented. Today many people still enjoy the taste; not limited to female drinkers!

Daytime talk shows and medical magazines are promoting green tea extract as a beneficial supplement for weight reduction. With the growing interest of , a lot of people are wondering the safeness of the supplement. A lot of the media promoting tea are usually not explaining enough of the unwanted side effects. Fully knowing the potential unwanted effects is important in order to take health benefits with no unwanted outcomes.

As with many supplements or prescription drugs, the amount provides a major role with regards to negative effects. If taken without care, even the healthiest supplement allows unanticipated effects. Same logic applies here. Precisely what is the right amount of tea?

The most active components of tea are catechin and caffeine. Both of them help out with making use of fat as the resource to make heat which is called thermogenesis. This process in return boosts metabolic rate. Enhanced metabolism burns fat more rapidly in the body.

Numerous scientific studies on caffeine and its influence on human body system have been conducted. Lots of nutritionists are saying normally over 500mg of caffeine a day is too much. It can be unsafe causing negative effects like insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, stomach upset, fast heartbeat and muscle tremors. Experts furthermore agree that level of sensitivity to caffeine differs by an individual, but 300mg or lower is considered to be a healthy dose.

A cup of tea has around 20mg of caffeine. Compare to other caffeinated drinks, it is not a lot. In a cup of coffee there are around 100mg of caffeine. When tea is the only caffeinated beverage taken then it should not be an issue. But if other caffeinated drinks are consumed throughout the day, then it is critical to consider the total daily dose of caffeine.

Scientists conducted tests pertaining to the amount of tea. A daily amount of 800mg of EGCG was tested successfully and without unwanted effects. A single cup of tea carries close to 100mg of EGCG, which is 8 cups of green tea. Lots of lab experiments indicate more EGCG equals to more fat reduction, but some medical experts agree that too much of isolated compound from herbal plants may be a problem. It is hard to make a definite conclusion about based on clinical research, but a lot of health specialists are saying 300mg of EGCG is the best dose to take in a day. There have been dependable lab results while using the dosage of 300mg fighting cancer cells and weight reduction.

Due to the increasing popularity of green tea, much more tests will likely be done. As for now, 300mg appears to be a safe amount for both caffeine and EGCG.

Tea is believed to have originated in China. Chinese people are still consuming tea thousands of years later. Over the course of centuries, tea made its way around the globe. Many countries from all over the world enjoy tea to this day. However, there are many differences between the world of tea in Asian countries and in the Western world. The differences are from how a tea tastes to how it is prepared. The one that seems to remain consistent throughout all the regions is that both oriental tea and western tea is still linked to social gatherings.

In China, oriental tea is considered highly important by their society. Tea houses can easily be found in a majority of Chinese neighborhoods as well as in various business districts. All throughout the country, a typical tea house in China will be flooded with students and business men in the later afternoon hours. In the late night hours, the house is overtaken by those who stay up late and night owls. There are also formal tea-houses in which one can find a wide range of both Chinese and Japanese tea leaves. Tea vendors are also prevalent in this area. They specialize in selling tea products like leaves, pots, cups and other instruments.

In the United States, however, western tea is often served as a substitute for coffee when served hot and a substitute for soda when served cold. Whereas China has the afternoon tea ritual, the beverage is consumed generally throughout the day in the US. Before World War II, green tea and black tea were equally preferred as the tea of choice for about 40% of its population. The other 20% preferred to oolong tea.

Because the war cut off their supply from China and Japan, the US turned to India which makes black tea. The black tea eventually took over as the preference of Americans. Green, oolong and white tea have all started rising in popularity again in recent years. They are considered to be health food. In recent years, coffee houses across the United States started to serve customers sweet, spiced milky tea known as chai, which is based on an Indian tea called masala chai. A tea from Taiwan called bubble tea is also gaining in popularity. Another popular trend with western tea is to drink a decaffeinated version, whereas this practice is not seen with oriental tea.

Hey all Im a guy and recently I found a couple cool things that help me shed 40 lbs. Everyday of course I’m constantly bombarded with snickers and insults because of my weight in public etc. It’s not like that anymore for me. I have been doing a bit of jogging but also been taking a few different products that I know have made the difference.

The first thing I have been doing is taking a cool thing called acai berry. The claims on the bottle sounded too good to be true but I decided since it was a natural berry picked right off a tree and not some man made chemical . My friends said it was really great so I had to try it. It also said it would flush my colon clean and I would shed excess pounds which obviously piqued my interest immediately. WIth those factors weighing in I took the free trial and began taking it immediately as soon as it came. I felt instantly better after a couple days and I began to literally dissolve my excess pounds within a week. I combined this with a green tea exract that I have been taking for some time now (but not religiously). I decided I would follow the instructions and take both every day. 2 months later I am here 40 lbs. lighter and not a bit of excess flab or skin on me.

IF you actually take the products daily and not every 3rd day like so many of us do then this acai beryr and green tea combination will 100% work for you. In my humble opinion that is the biggest reason people fail at diets that work for other people – they skip days, eat 10 lbs of icecream with their diet pills, etc.

Follow my exact plan if you want and get a free trial of acai extreme here. After a bit of searching I also found a free trial of green tea extract (I paid for mine).
